HCCSA Music Conservatory Bio
Born and raised in East St. Louis, Lisa Maher grew up among a family of musicians and performers who greatly influenced her appreciation for all types of music. From opera to jazz, hip-hop to classical, Lisa embraces the joy and enrichment music brings to life.
Lisa has a special interest in dyslexic students and recently earned her master’s degree in Advanced Literacy and Education from Concordia University where she completed a thesis on using music as a means to enhance vocabulary development for struggling students. She is a Texas State Board of Education Reading Specialist candidate and an EC-6th grade board certified teacher. Lisa hopes to complete a PhD so that she can continue researching the impact of dyslexia and learning music.
Lisa frequently volunteers as a musician at Pioneer Farms Living History Museum in Pflugerville where she performs music from the 1700-1800s. Lisa sings and plays guitar annually at the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo with an Americana-folk group called Lohman's Crossing. She also sings with the Round Rock Community Choir.
Lisa maintains a private teaching studio called “Keys for Kids Piano” where she teaches around 30 students, many of them dyslexic.
Lisa and her husband, Mike, have two children who attend school at HCCSA.
Lisa Maher is proud to be a piano teacher at HCCSA!
